Gone are the days of the woo woo
Just got back from training. We went "over" our "new" protocols in my state.
Why the ""?
Because they have not been approved. There are still disagreements on what a patient is and how it's defined.
I agree. The definition is too vague. The phase and has a complaint of injury was removed. The way the definition stands right not we could be kidnapping and battering a lot of patients.
Why kidnapping?
The definition is so vague it doesn't let a conscience sound mind person refuse service.
Why battery?
The definition describes everyone as a patient. Imagine you are at the mall and cough. Suddenly, you are being asked SAMPLE OPQRST, and then signing a ton of documents. Just so a poor EMS personnel can CYA.
One thing that stays the same is the use of lights and siren. Even priority one patients don't warrant L&S.
I agree.
My state is so small you can get from east to west in as little as ten minutes as much as two hours.
In my district, a ride without lights and sirens, the ride to the level one trauma center is anywhere from twenty minutes to half hour.
Why not run hot?
Ok.
I understand if you are in the city or a larger state to be in a favor of of running hot. But here in my state people panic. They cause accidents trying to look at all the pretty lights or a glimpse of trauma.
Maybe a driver training refresher course should be given every five year when you renew your drivers license. Stressing if you want to see the results of MVCs to join you local volunteer company.
We could use the help.
