Here and now.
I was an activity therapist for five years before becoming am EMT.
I changed careers due to the fact that I wanted to make a difference in people's lives.
In therapy, it's up to the individual wether or not if they want your help or not.
I guess the same premise could be said about EMS, also.
For the most part people are happy to see us. It is the not the same greeting I normally got as a therapist. My PTs now have a look of relief when I walk in the door, not terror or indifference. I am now greeted with a smile, instead of a sigh or eye roll.
In both careers, I am there to help. But in EMS I feel wanted. My pts summon me to help. Where is when I was a therapist most of my help came court ordered to people would rather enjoy their free meals and cable TV.
I have to say I have finally found a career I enjoy. Now if my health would just follow suit.
