This all really started about this time last year.
There's a sports conference every year. They need EMTs and paramedics for basic triage, and in the event an emergency should arise.
We normally have a paramedic oversee our actions as BLS providers.
Last year, they decide to put a transport EMT in charge.
Completely overlooking me.
This is EMT has no emergency experience whatsoever.
The only experience they have is strapping people wheelchairs into a van, and dropping off at their destination. No life or death decisions. Just a manifest and paycheck.
Last year the medic couldn't do it; because he was busy. I thought, since I have participated for two years prior, I would have been a shoe into be in charge.
Then I was never asked to do it. I then found out by Facebook that this person was placed in charge. I waited another week for my "team" to ask if I was going to be present. I got nothing until 3 days prior to the event. This is a major undertaking. It involves planning and reservations and such.
I made plans elsewhere, so I was unable to make it.
It's not the fact that I was jilted.
It's the safety of others I'm concerned about. I EMT'd another event with this person before. There was an incident of difficulty breathing. This person freaked. While I worked on this patient, they slowly slipped out to the after-party.
Now I see this is in charge again this year. They are calling themselves EMTs, but not one of them are certified as EMTs. They are healthcare workers though.
EMS is not a joke.
People count on us to help.
Playing emt is not like playing house.
People die.
I just it will have to take that to have them open their eyes to how dangerous this situation is or could be.
This may gives clues to the situation:
