The candle

Have you watched a candle go out?

No. Really , really watching candle go out?

You dance with the flame. Just watch it go back-and-forth. Ebbing every movement you make. It looks like its going to extinguish by itself, but then again it comes back strong.

Use your hands, the way you have been taught, to shelter it from the wind. But it is the inevitable, the last breath of the flame is about to go out.

You beg, you plead, you even pray. Please, not this time. We are almost there little one! You have so much to shine for the world.

Then the flame disappears.

Just like that.

You cannot restart the flame. No matter how many time you push the button.

You watch as the wick recedes into the wax. The little amber left on the wick, ethereally fades. You fight the end, by giving breathe to that small ember.

No matter what interventions you try, nothing seems to work.

Everything you do fails in vain. You watch helplessly, as the orange glow, goes grey. What little breath that was left in the fiery flame has gone out.

You sit back and look over everything you have done, but it was that candles fate to not hold life's vigil.

Sleep well, little one, sleep well.

-stay safe.
